At Waikoikoi School, our students have been learning that even small actions can make a big difference. Thanks to the generous support of local businesses, families and community members, students have been busy building stoat traps to help protect our native wildlife.
Using donated timber and materials, students measured, cut, assembled the traps while learning about the impact introduced predators have on New Zealand's native birds and ecosystems. The project has provided valuable hands on learning opportunities, combining practical skills with environmental education.
The completed traps will form part of our community trap library. Local residents will be able to borrow traps free of charge to help control pests on their properties. By working together, we are supporting conservation efforts across our community and helping create safer habitats for native birds and wildlife.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated materials, shared their expertise and supported our students throughout this project. Together, we are making a positive difference for our environment.
